Gert-Tom Draisma
Gert-Tom Draisma is the founder of Tristan Finance, a highly specialised private equity technology and consulting firm, best known for its expertise in Investran and increasingly focused on carried interest.
Gert-Tom (GT) began his career in private equity on the client side, giving him first-hand experience of the systems, accounting, data and reporting requirements faced by private equity organisations. After an early period working directly in fund accounting, his career developed primarily around private equity technology, systems, data and consulting.
He founded Tristan Finance in 2000. Over more than 25 years, the firm has developed a specialist position around Investran, one of the principal accounting and administration platforms used across the private capital industry. Although deliberately small, Tristan Finance is well known within the Investran community and has supported private equity managers, institutional investors and service providers across Europe and the United States.
Organisations Gert-Tom and Tristan Finance have worked with include xxxxxxxxxx, with some client relationships extending for more than 25 years.
Gert-Tom's particular expertise lies at the intersection of private equity, technology and data. His work has included Investran implementations and complex system projects, data architecture and warehousing, reporting and analytics, process design, and solving problems where fund structures, accounting requirements, data and technology meet.
His experience is not limited to the GP and fund-administration side. Through extensive work with institutional LPs, Gert-Tom has also developed considerable exposure to the specific requirements of investors, including their needs around data, reporting, transparency, reconciliation and independent validation.
This combination of GP, LP and service-provider perspectives is particularly relevant to carried interest.
Carried interest sits at the intersection of all of these disciplines. Legal and economic provisions must be interpreted correctly, translated into calculation rules, supported by reliable data, implemented in technology, administered over the life of a fund and ultimately produce results that can be explained and independently validated.
Gert-Tom's carried interest work therefore encompasses interpretation, modelling, calculation, data, validation, reconciliation, controls and administration. He works closely with Qashqade, a specialist carried interest technology platform, combining deterministic calculation technology with the interpretation, data management and professional judgement required for complex real-world carry arrangements.
Gert-Tom previously contributed as an author to PEI’s The Definitive Guide to Carried Interest, reflecting his long-standing involvement in the systems, technology and practical implementation of carried interest within private equity.
Gert-Tom is the founder and principal author of The Carried Interest Bible, a living technical reference bringing together the economic, legal, accounting, operational, data and technological aspects of carried interest in private markets.
The project draws on more than 25 years of experience working with private equity organisations, their systems and their data, together with ongoing research and practical carried interest work.
Its objective is straightforward:
To make complex carried interest understandable, explainable, reproducible and defensible.
